This drive MAY need replacement. The Smart Array Controller has spun
down this drive (drive Fault amber LED is ON or the drive has been removed),
but there is not enough information to determine if the physical drive should
be replaced.
To further troubleshoot your drive, perform the following troubleshooting
steps:
- Reseat the drive, if there are no other failed drives in the array.
- Check the SCSI cables for proper seating, cable routing, external physical
damage and physical damage or debris on pins.
- Reseat the Smart Array controller.
- Compare the test results with other drives on the same bus. If there are
multiple drives on this bus with the same type of error, that could indicate a
backplane or cabling issue and not a physical drive problem.
- Examine SCSI cables for damage or swap cables from another system. If the
drives are known to be good, or if they function properly in other systems, the
SCSI backplane may be at fault.
- Contact HP Support for further troubleshooting or if there are other errors.
Contact information for HP Support is located in the Help.
If the previous steps have been performed and the drive Fault amber LED is
still ON, then replace the drive by performing the following steps:
- Have a known good data backup.
- Replace the failed drive with one that is the same as, or functionally
equivalent to, the original drive.
- Do not replace the drive if there is another drive that is failed,
offline, or in the process of being rebuilt.
Notes:
- It is recommended that steps involving the reseating of drives and
controllers be performed simultaneously to minimize downtime. Steps involving
multiple drive reseating, controller reseating, and cable inspection should be
performed with the server powered off.
- On non-Hot Plug drives, make sure the replacement drive ID matches the
original drive ID.

Guide for your controller located on hp.com.
